Trails

We have beautifully preserved, natural trails. You may walk, bike, or horseback ride along these trails to spend your day alone or with loved ones.

Boating

We allow both boating and fishing on our conservation. Take your boat out on the lake and fish till you are content! Flat-bottom boats only.

Campsites

Enjoy scenic views, peaceful trails, and quality time by reserving a campsite today. Provide your own necessities and then you’re all set!

Do's and Don'ts while at Putnam

Do's

  • Enjoy our bike trails for free!
  • Enjoy our horseback trails for free!
  • Check the conditions of trails before using facilities.
  • practice Leave no trace behind.
  • Remain on designated trails while hiking, biking, or riding.
  • Contact office district before camping in grounds larger than 5.
  • Contact office district before horseback riding in groups bigger than 10.

Don'ts

  • Bring any alcoholic and or intoxicating substances on the trails.
  • Drop items on or off the trail.
  • Bring outside trash to trails.
  • Ride or walk the trails after dark.
  • Ride or walk through prairies or tall grass.
  • Ride or walk through the center of the district and park.
  • Ride mountain bikes on walking trails.
  • Riding horses on any walking trails.
  • Riding horses on any roads not designated as horse trails.
  • Park trailers outside clearly designated horse camp areas.

Additional information

  • Any one found riding on trails that are designated horse trails will receive a verbal warning after the 1st offense, a written warning after the 2nd offense, and a $75 fine after the 3rd offense

     

  • Horseback trails may be closed at least 24 hours after significant rainfall, please check weather for McNabb, Illinois before coming to the conservation area.

  • Camping Fees are $10 a day per tent or trailer
